In 2007 Wendy Wooden contracted E. coli, which led to a rare and serious complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome. Spending the better part of that year in the hospital, Wendy, now age 7, was able to overcome her illness and now, at age 7, lives the rambunctious life of a normal child.
