Olivia Knudson, 10, and Helen Billings choose items to fill a gift box as Menig Extended Care Facility residents and fifth- and sixth-graders from the Baptist Fellowship Church in Randolph filled 75 shoeboxes with gifts for children around the world on Monday. The program is part of the Baptist FellowshipÕs larger collection efforts through Operation Christmas Child, which sends shoebox gifts to the poorest of children in many countries. In 2010, 8.2 million boxes were sent to children in 100 countries, of which Menig in Randolph contributed 49 boxes, up from 34 in 2009. Menig residents, staff and family have been collecting goods like toothbrushes and small toys and making goods from crocheted hats and mittens to necklaces to send. (Herald / Tim Calabro)
