The White River Partnership, which is based in Royalton, recently received a $100,000 check from the U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife to help them make long-term repairs to area culverts that blew out during August's flooding. Here, the Partnership's Greg Russ shows a culvert in Broad Brook that was temporarily replaced. The original culvert was 18" in diameter and was replaced temporarily by a 5' metal culvert, which is still three times too small for the flood volume of water. The White River Partnership hopes to have a 14' bottomless culvert installed at this site, which will prevent future blow-outs and also enable fish to pass through. (Herald / Tim Calabro)
