A Perseid meteor from the Swift-Tuttle comet streaks across the night sky over Silver Lake in Barnard, Vermont last weekend. The Perseid meteor shower occurs every August when the Earth travels through debris left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet, but this year promises a more spectacular show than the norm, peaking at around 200 meteors per hour.
