Held in check by unseasonably cool April weather, Vermont’s spring seemed to emerge everywhere all at once this week. On Tuesday, Herald photographer Bob Eddy took a walk about Braintree Hill. At every turn, signs of new life filled his lens: toads mating in the vernal pool, unfurling leaf of apple, rhubarb erupting from the ground, trillium blooming in roadside gravel, dandelion looking sharp as lion’s teeth in the grass, worm twisting in turned soil, fern fronds unfurling, the deep woods aglow with a million tiny lamps of new green leaf.
