GREENING UP IN CHELSEA | Phillip Mulligan and Tim Courts added their efforts to those of thousands of Vermonters who took a few hours to clean up the state's highways and back roads, Saturday. This pair, again this year, tackled a particularly nasty stretch above Jenkins Brook Road on County Road, in Chelsea. Here, where refuse can roll hundreds of feet down an extremely steep slope, some folks have been dumping refuse for generations. "We've cleaned up everything from beer and soda cans to appliances and tires here over the years; once a freezer full of rotten meat," said Mulligan, adding, "There's less trash in this spot today compared to other years," Earlier in the week groups went out from the school and citizenry gathered trash on their own roads with bags picked up at local stores. The final effort was coordinated by Beth Ann Finlay, who assigned crews to particularly difficult areas, sending them out from a gathering of volunteers at the town basketball court at 9:30 Saturday morning.
