Sara St. Peter trains for the combined driving event Monday afternoon with her horse, Redprairie Trotter, and trainer Charlie Ballou at Maranatha Stables in Brookfield. St. Peter, who was badly injured in a workplace accident in 2000, is a quadriplegic and must use highly-specialized equipment to compete in the fast-paced horse driving world. Her carriage, for example was specially designed to fold, which enables St. Peter to slide to and from her wheel chair. Besides training several days a week, St. Peter is also a board member, in charge of publicity, for the U.S. Driving for the Disabled, an association that Òsupports, selects, and trains the elite drivers of Team USA that compete in the World Championships for Drivers with DisabilitiesÓ as well as promoting therapeutic driving.
