Last Saturday a sun halo appeared overhead in Rochester. These halos are caused by refraction and reflection of light from ice crystals suspended in high altitude (troposhpere) cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. The crystals act as prisms ans mirrors. (Herald / Jerry LeBlond)
