While stocking hardware on Thursday morning, Phil Coburn explains ,"I retired at 65,. wanting to work outside after 41 years here and at Hanover Co-op. But Mel still wanted me in the business, so I come in on Thursdays to give him one day away from the store. Gives me time for firewood, sugaring, and snow mobiling." At 83, Phil has slowed down a bit from a few years ago when he'd sell 50 cords of wood; snow mobile 5,000 miles; and boil 175 gallons of syrup, but he still delights in all three passions.
