Hannah Thein (back row, third from right), the new Principal at the Barnard Academy, takes part in a group teacher training for the newly formed Forest Friday Parent Learning Commitee in the school's library. Having grown up working on a farm in Vermont, she discussed her impetus in seeking to teach greater reverence and understanding of the natural world, saying, "We need to have a real appreciation and love for nature, in order to do the work that it takes to sustain it. We are stewards of our planet and we need to install that in kids. If they don't get it like I did on the farm, then we need to do it in schools." (Herald / Seth Butler)
