Budding Artists | Ceramics was a new choice art class at White River Valley High School starting last year and is a favorite, according to students. Art teacher Abbey Goodrich explained that in creating the architectural structures in the picture, the students learned about the slab construction process. They also used this method in their prior totem pole designs. Through ceramics class the students learn about timing and planning since the finished project needs to be ‘bone dry’ prior to being kilned, then glaze is added and it is kiln dried again to complete the project. Some of the structures being created include a lighthouse, a castle, and a mushroom house for fairies, Pictured is Goodrich assisting some of the ceramics class, (l-r) Matt Lincoln, Taylor Rogers, Lilly Hudson, George Carr, and Alexis Wertheim with their structures.
