Highest Point | Snow plasters the blasted rock face crowned by spruce and pine beside I-89 at its highest elevation about a mile south of exit 5, Wednesday. Until 2005, this spot in the southbound lane was marked by a prominent sign providing the elevation for passing motorists. It's removal was lamented by many who found it not simply an interesting bit of interstate trivia, but an important marker of the location of some of the highway's severest weather, especially in winter. And what exactly was the elevation proclaimed on that now long-absent sign? "1,752 feet." (Herald / Bob Eddy)
