Travon Groves, of Braintree has begun taking more initiative in speaking out, and organizing Black Lives Matter rallies since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25. In Montpeler last month, he addressed the crowd, saying, "My brothers and sisters, we wake up and fight this battle every day!... We are in a state where we are very outnumbered. Look at this protest, this is a protest for black peace, and these are about the only blacks we have here... If you are here for the crowd, please, we don't want you... When you go home tonight, think about that... When this is over, when George Floyd is over with, and it's not the cool thing to do, where are you going to be? Are you going to go back to your normal lives? Or, are you going to be out here protesting with us still? This doesn't end with a charge and a conviction, because we got a charge and a conviction in Chicago with Van Dyke, who only ended up with six and a half years and getting out in three. Is that justice? Not at all! He took a child from his parents, and he's out walking on the streets in three years! So this does not end with a conviction. When this is all over with, I'm hoping to see all of your faces still out here protesting, and backing our lives, because black lives do matter!" (Herald / Bob Eddy)
