A moose dressing out at 582 pounds was taken on Pecore Ridge in Braintree last week. Jesse Ernst was first shooter, Jeremi Lyford second, and Rick Ernst guide, for the hunt which began very early Tuesday, October 9. The bull walked up to Rick Ernst's repeated call at 9:15 A.M. Shots from both Lyford and Jesse Ernst were required to take it down. It took the entire day to drag the bull 2 miles to the road. This trio has been enormously successful in Vermont's annual moose season. The younger Ernst, alone, has participated in 6 hunts. This season marked his first as first shooter. (Herald / Bob Eddy)
