Jacob LaPerle, 15, has spent the summer working for the town road crew, hand-painting each of the village's 100 fire hydrants with a bright red coat. It's taken about 5 gallons of "fire-hydrant red" and a month and a half to get the job done. LaPerle was eager to point out that he was responsible only for the red coat; a second layer of paint on the top of each hydrant (either green or blue) denotes the water pressure for Randolph's fire fighters and is applied later on by Tony Delgado.
