A WORLD OF SONG | The Randolph Singers, preparing seasonal songs from around the world for their annual holiday concert, were taught a traditional Shona song from Zimbabwe by Innocent Mkopi, Tuesday. Mpoki was visibly moved when the chorus joined him in “Jesu Idombo.” He explained that, he received his education with help of Zienzele Foundation, founded by Nancy Clark, a nurse at Gifford Medical Center, as a child walking barefoot two hours each way to school. This fall, with continuing Zienzele support, he has matriculated at Community College of Vermont. Speaking quietly to the Singers, he marveled about his journey to higher education in Vermont from childhood in a mud and thatch hut with no electricity or running water. (Herald / Bob Eddy)
