Bruce Essler had to evacuated his Belmar, NJ, home only to find out from his neighbors, Dale and Brian Howard, that his Thayer Brook home and barn were almost wiped out by flood waters here in Vermont. Raging waters passed through the barn, surrounded the home, leaving debris on the front porch and removed the back yard up to within a foot of the home's foundation. Thayer Brook Road above this point became the new brook bed, as water spilled over, not through, a five foot culvert, creating the waterfall on the right In his panorama the Howards are standing on the road, which passes between the house and the barn. The road and brook became one from this point up the hill, trappig residents on several miles of road above. Until Riford Brook bridge is replaced, (a huge project) this road will become the only route for Braintree residents living along over 7 miles of Thayer and Riford Brook roads.(Herald / Bob Eddy)
