SoRo firefighters Mark Wood, left, Samantha Bruce , and Chief Paul Brock fill the rink on the town green with about 30,000 gallons of water Monday night in South Royalton before weather overnight dropped to -17°. The cold weather does have outdoor benefits for young and old. The Randolph skating rink will open this Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and will continue to offer open skating every day starting at 11 and usually running until 8 p.m. or so (except for Sunday, when it closes at 6:30). Cross-country skiers and snowshoers are happy too. The Strafford Nordic Center is “100% open” and trails at the Green Mountain Stock farm have also been packed. (Herald / Tim Calabro)
