WELCOME HOME | One day before Irene, Phelen Martin (left) headed from East Granville to UVM for his freshman year. "Everything's changed," he said, visiting with his dad, Chris, and neighbor Skip Bent, who were taking a break from restoring Bill Culver's garden plot. "I went into Randolph early in the storm to get supplies with Chris and my wife, Marsha," observed Bent. "The truck was pushing water up to the hood for the last bit on the way home; pretty close to floating." Martin added, "I kept my window open all the way." (Herald / Bob Eddy)
