Central Vermont Public Services linemen work to repair damage after residents of BethelÕs North Main Street were treated to an unwelcome surprise just before 8 a.m. Monday morning when a maple tree fell onto the power lines. Instead of tearing the lines down, the tree caused the lines to jerk tight and rip away from nearby structures, leaving 125 CVPS customers without power service for approximately two and a half hours. According to CVPS's Christine Rivers, the tree likely fell because of ground saturation from ongoing rains. (Herald /Tim Calabro)
